It was late that night,
as she wrestled for his keys.
He stubbornly snatched it away,
insisting he could see.
A panic rose within her,
he wouldn't give it up.
And when she said to let her drive,
he said, "sorry no such luck!"
So with the key in the ignition,
they began to slowy drive away...
as she fumbled with her seatbelt...
a long and restless day.
She could smell the liquor,
he had drank a lot.
And as she asked for him to slow down,
he refused and he would not.
He was soon up to seventy...
she felt the tightness in her chest.
She pleaded with him to pull over...
she could hardly catch her breath.
He swurved into the left lane,
she could see an oncoming light.
The car was filled with her screams,
as he jerked the car to his right.
He laughed in a nervous tone,
and he began to apologize...
taking his focus off the road,
he saw the terror in her eyes.
He then lost his vision...
and she screamed once more.
She heard the windshield shatter...
He lie crumpled on the floor.
He lay motionless in the rubble.
She felt the blood on her hands.
And as hard as it would be to accept,..
she would have to understand.
The sirens echoed in the silence...
red and blue flashing light.
She screamed in pain and frustration...
she lived but she had no right.
There was nothing they could do now...
they said he slipped away.
As she say her brother still motionless...
he was alive just today!
She would never forget it...
the grief she could not hide.
Going seventy miles per hour...
the night her brother died.
The time of death was stated:
Sunday, three fifty-five.
On his grave, left words of wisdom:
Do not drink and drive...
as she wrestled for his keys.
He stubbornly snatched it away,
insisting he could see.
